Beehive of Activity...
The cement slab at the rear of the farmhouse
was removed in April. We hoped it would reveal the footprint
of the beehive oven and we weren’t disappointed. There were
still stones in place showing the size of the oven, which
was significantly larger than what we had anticipated. In
addition, there’s indications that there was a wood structure
adjacent to it…a woodshed maybe?
Also, much to our surprise, beneath the slap
were the original stone steps to the back of the house…steps
that plenty of Confederate boots undoubtedly ascended, including
those of General Richard Ewell.
A roof donated by Dave and Jen LeVan will top
the new stone beehive oven.
